I had never stayed in a motel on Ocracoke but since we moved away, we now need lodging when we come to visit. Pony Island Motel exceeded my expectations!
We booked a room on the pool side with 2 queen beds. We were surprised at how spacious the room was. There was a microwave, mini-fridge and coffee maker in the room. The heat/ac unit worked well and there is also a ceiling fan. The bathroom was a good size and the shower was steaming hot with lots of water pressure. The beds were very comfortable and I slept well both nights which doesn’t always happen for me while traveling.

The cleanliness- 5 stars!!! I know the family that runs the hotel and how hard they all work but the cleanliness of the room really blew me away. I honestly can’t find a thing to complain about. This business is a long time family run hotel that is a reminder of the old Outer Banks lodging experience. We loved the personalized service and the 'can do' attitude of the staff.
The motel is ideally located in the heart of town very convient to surf fishing and the resturants are in walking distance. Bikes are on site for renting and an excellent resturant for breakfast is on site with the same name but different owners. Excellent value for the money. Wonderful place to stay on an island paradise! The Pony Island Motel is centrally locates and very clean. They have a shaded area for cooking outside and a fish cleaning area. They also have a spot to plug in golf cart chargers at the cleaning station.
The staff is very friendly. The beds are comfortable but there are 2 full beds in the rooms and not 2 queen beds. The room had a mini fridge and a microwave.
I’ve stayed there on 2 different visits in the past 2 weeks and will probably be back soon. I would have rated it 5 Stars but I didn’t because of the full sized beds.
